Sir,

Mr. Tse Tsan-tai to Director of Public Works.

122

Public Works Department,

25th. April 1895.

Having now served under you for five years, I venture to

hope that during this period i have given you every satisfaction in

the performance of my various duties and that you will be pleased to

allow me to address you on the subject of my salary.

*

Since the anlgamation of the Water and Drainage and Public

Works Departments the clerical work and interpretation of the Water

and Drainage Eranch has devolved solely on me, the work, a list of

which I beg leave to enclose, is chiefly in connection with water

and House Service Accounts, and Rook-keeping, end it is at times

rather arduous.

As it is obvious that the work will be greatly increased

with the xtension of the water works and the future .rosperity

of the Colony, I beg respectfuo ly to apply for an increase of sa-

lary.

I beg leave also to mention that have been very unfor-

tunate in not being granted exchange compensation, as I have been a

considerable lcser in having to remit money to my father in Austra-

lia up to May of last year, not to say anything of the increased cos

cost of living.
